The agency responsible for ESTA
U.S. embassies do not provide ESTA application services.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, a federal government organization, operates and manages the ESTA system.
United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) | This is one of the organizations of the U.S. federal government, established in November 2002 to protect the U.S. from threats such as terrorist attacks and natural disasters. |
United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) | This is the largest federal government agency under the jurisdiction of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Its duties are to fight terrorism, human trafficking, to combat drug smuggling, and to protect the U.S. from unlawful or dangerous activities such as smuggling of agricultural pests. Due to its nature as the central government agency managing U.S. borders, it encompasses a massive organization of approximately 52,000 people and facilities located at airports, ports, border checkpoints, and in other locations near U.S. borders. It was established in response to the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, through the consolidation of related agencies (customs, border patrol, and plant and animal quarantine) that had been divided among the Department of Justice, the State Department, the Department of Agriculture, and other government departments. |
For this reason, U.S. embassies and consulates would not provide information on the status of an ESTA application.
The embassy is not available to provide an answer on the status of your application after submitting it, reasons for rejection, or other details.
To check on ESTA status, email CBP from its website or call it by telephone.
